A head-on collision in Vieux Fort on Sunday evening claimed the life of Viclann Gollet Joseph and left several others injured.
The crash occurred at about 7:05 p.m. at Il Pirata, involving a car driven by Joseph and a minibus carrying multiple passengers. Video footage circulated on social media appeared to show Joseph’s vehicle veering into the opposite lane moments before colliding with the minibus.

According to the Saint Lucia Fire Service, emergency responders arrived to find nine people injured at the scene. Joseph, who was the sole occupant of the car, was found unresponsive with no vital signs. Life-saving interventions were initiated, and he was transported to a medical facility, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the minibus was found trapped in the vehicle and was extricated by firefighters. He sustained injuries to both lower extremities. Seven passengers aboard the minibus also suffered injuries, including trauma to the head and chest, as well as injuries to other parts of their bodies.
All injured persons were treated at the scene before being transported to a medical facility for further care.
Joseph’s death has also prompted an outpouring of grief from those who knew him personally. Friends and peers described him as a “hustler” and a passionate car enthusiast who, by their accounts, “lived life to the fullest.”

As investigations into the exact cause of the crash continue, authorities have renewed calls for greater road safety and vigilance among motorists urging drivers to exercise caution on the nation’s roads.
