Caribbean stars gain global recognition on Billboard’s 2026 emerging artist lists.
Through its annual “Artists to Watch” list and the launch of a new “Caribbean Rookie of the Month” spotlight, the influential music publication has highlighted a new generation of performers shaping the future of hip-hop, R&B and Caribbean music.
Among the artists gaining attention are dancehall artists Ayetian and Skippa, who were both included in Billboard’s “15 Hip-Hop, R&B & Caribbean Artists to Watch in 2026” list. The annual roundup identifies emerging performers who industry observers believe could break through globally during the next calendar year.
Ayetian, born in Jamaica to Haitian parents, has been building momentum with his melodic style that blends traditional dancehall rhythms with trap-influenced production. His sound reflects the growing fusion between Caribbean and hip-hop genres that has become increasingly popular among younger audiences.
Ayetian’s biggest hit in 2025 was the viral dancehall single Wah Yo Deh Pan featuring Govana and Nvtzz. Released in August 2025, the song dominated airwaves, amassed over 3.1 million YouTube views in its first three weeks, and broke into the Top 25 playlist on Apple Music in New York.
Fellow Jamaican artist Skippa has been generating buzz with energetic street anthems and a strong following in the island’s dancehall scene. His music has resonated with fans for its raw energy and modern dancehall production. His hit single Duppyman Style ft. Feloni19 peaked at No. 1 on the Apple Music Top 25 playlist in Jamaica.
Skippa is also one of many artists who have jumped on the WYFL (What You Feel Like) riddim. His version has amassed 9 million views on YouTube.
Another artist on the list with Caribbean roots is Natanya, a London-based singer with Indo-Trinidadian and Nigerian heritage whose work combines R&B, pop and subtle Caribbean influences. Natanya represents a different side of the region’s musical impact, blending island heritage with contemporary global sounds and storytelling.
Natanya premiered her latest single Jezebel on BBC Radio 1’s Future Artists with Sian Eleri. The song appears on her EP Feline’s Return Act II, which was released on October 10, 2025, via Human Re Sources.
Billboard’s “Artists to Watch” list places these Caribbean performers alongside rising acts from across the music industry, including names from the hip-hop, alternative R&B and pop scenes. The inclusion of Ayetian, Skippa and Natanya reflects the continuing influence of Caribbean music culture on global trends, especially as dancehall, Afro-Caribbean rhythms and diaspora-inspired sounds become increasingly mainstream.
Billboard also introduced a new feature in 2026 focused specifically on emerging talent from the region. The publication launched its “Caribbean Rookie of the Month” spotlight to highlight promising artists making waves across the Caribbean music landscape.
The inaugural artist selected for the honour was Jamaican dancehall singer Armanii. Known for his emotional vocal style and modern dancehall sound, Armanii has steadily gained attention both locally and internationally. His music blends heartfelt melodies with contemporary production, helping him connect with audiences beyond Jamaica’s borders.
In 2025, Armanii won “Best Impact Dancehall Artist” at the Caribbean Music Awards, and his hit single 8:00 PM ft. Malie Donn was ranked among the most-streamed tracks of the year on Audiomack across the Caribbean. His album The Impact, released in late 2025, was also highlighted by Billboard as one of the top Caribbean albums of the year.
The Impact
Billboard’s feature on Armanii explored his journey as an emerging artist and his vision for the future of his music. The recognition signals growing industry awareness of the new generation of Caribbean performers pushing the genre forward while maintaining its cultural roots.
Together, the “Artists to Watch” list and the new “Caribbean Rookie of the Month” spotlight highlight the global music industry’s increasing focus on Caribbean talent. From dancehall innovators in Jamaica to diaspora-influenced singers blending genres and with Soca, Bouyon and other Caribbean genres gaining popularity worldwide, the region continues to produce artists whose sounds resonate far beyond their home islands.
As streaming platforms and social media make it easier for artists to reach global audiences, recognition from major industry outlets like Billboard can provide an important boost. For rising Caribbean performers such as Ayetian, Skippa, Natanya and Armanii, these acknowledgements mark another step toward bringing the region’s vibrant musical culture to the world stage.
