Junior Carnival 2026 has received a major boost after Piton Malta reaffirmed its commitment to youth development, culture, and sustainability during a cheque handover ceremony with the Carnival Planning and Management Committee on May 13th.
Speaking at the event, CPMC Chairperson Tamara Gibson made it clear that Junior Carnival is no longer being viewed as simply a children’s parade, but as a critical investment in the future of Saint Lucian culture.
“Junior Carnival is more than just a parade. It is an incubator for creativity, costume building, and the preservation of our Lucian identity. It is where our young revelers learn the art of playing mas and where the next generation of designers and performers are born,” Gibson declared.
She emphasized that while adult carnival festivities often dominate public attention, the real future of the culture lies with young people.
Gibson also praised Piton Malta’s longstanding support for Junior Carnival, noting that the brand has remained committed since the event was repositioned into its own standalone platform.
“Your commitment today ensures that our children have a safe, vibrant, and well-supported platform to showcase their talent,” she added.
Representing Heineken Saint Lucia, Senior Category Manager for Non-Alcoholic Beverages Sharlene Skinner said the company’s support goes far beyond branding, focusing instead on nurturing discipline, creativity, and responsibility among youth.
“When we look at our youth, we want them to create the habits from now of knowing when is enough, of knowing balance. It is about responsible consumption, but it is also about nourishing creativity, ingenuity, innovation, and entrepreneurial skills,” Skinner stated.
Skinner also commended the committee’s expanded approach to Junior Carnival this year, particularly its focus on recognizing individual students and bands.
“The students are putting themselves forward. The students are taking the brave steps. The students are putting in the hard work, and they should be rewarded,” she said.
Meanwhile, Corporate Affairs Manager Louise Victor said sustainability will play a major role in this year’s Junior Carnival activities, revealing that more than 1,000 reusable water bottles will be distributed across participating schools.
“Responsible enjoyment is not just a message for adults; it is a message for our kids. We want the message of sustainability starts with me to remain with them long after the activities are over,” Victor explained.
According to her, the initiative is intended to encourage environmentally conscious habits among students, while reinforcing the broader message of responsible enjoyment throughout Lucian Carnival.
With increased sponsorship, expanded programming, and stronger emphasis on youth empowerment and sustainability, organizers believe Junior Carnival 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most impactful editions yet, one aimed not only at entertaining, but preserving the future of Saint Lucia’s carnival culture.
