Postmaster General Algernon Gomes has revealed key operational updates regarding ongoing structural developments within Antigua and Barbuda’s postal services.
In an exclusive interview with Observer Media, Gomes detailed current administrative efforts aimed at enhancing efficiency and addressing localized service challenges across the twin-island nation. The operational update comes as regional ministers, postmasters general, and administrators gather for the 28th Caribbean Postal Union (CPU) Conference, which convened on May 25th in The Bahamas at the British Colonial Nassau Hotel and ends on May 29th, 2026.
According to Gomes, the management team remains actively engaged in monitoring systemic workflows to better serve residents and commercial entities reliant on regional mail networks.

“I am confident that the insights from the regional conference and current service assessments will significantly improve long-term distribution capabilities and public accessibility,” he said.
Gomes further indicated that structural adaptations are being implemented incrementally to meet evolving logistical demands.
“The department is systematically auditing its resource allocations while identifying key areas to optimize international parcel handling, dispatch reliability, and overall counter efficiency,” he added.
He emphasized that strengthening the general post office framework remains a vital component of the country’s internal communication strategy to maintain reliable service standards and support local commerce.
