The OPS Sports Field was full of noise and laughter on Saturday as four schools – Providence Christian Academy, Thornhill, Kidzplay, and V&M Little Stars – came together for a fun day of sport.

The event was centred around children and included activities such as races, tug-of-war and filling buckets with water. It was held under the theme ‘Let Us Run With Perseverance’.

The children were funny and curious, with some of them approaching the reporter on the field to use her camera.

Others were also fascinated by a microphone on site and tried to play with it to hear their voices across the field.

Their cheers brought the atmosphere to life.

Providence Christian Academy founder and principal Monica Hawala says she was happy with the turnout.

“If the Namibian child is safe and having fun, then I am happy,” she says, adding that she hopes to make this an annual event.

Teachers from V&M Little Stars, Maria Vekarapi and Evangeline Tjazarua, say they are proud of their team.

They say their pupils took second place despite not having much time to practise.
“We had little time to practice, but we are so proud of the outcome.”

Parents were also present at the event.

Nicolla April from Kidzplay says showing up for children is the most important thing. “It’s not always about winning, it’s about taking part and enjoying yourself.”

Some children took home prizes. Luna !Kabes won the race for 2 to 3-year-olds, while Blessing Swartbooi won the 4 to 5-year-olds’ race.

Kidzplay won the tug-of-war, and V&M Little Stars won the bucket game.
