South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Advocate Adrian Carl Mopp as Director of Public Prosecutions for the Western Cape Division, placing a veteran prosecutor with more than three decades of legal experience at the head of the province’s prosecuting authority.
The appointment took effect on 10 September after consultations with relevant ministers, presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said.
Mopp has served as the Western Cape’s provincial Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions since 2009. He was admitted as an advocate of the High Court of South Africa in 1993 and has spent more than 23 years as a member of the National Prosecuting Authority’s senior management.
The Presidency said Ramaphosa considered Mopp’s extensive prosecutorial and legal experience in making the appointment.
