THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced that two police detectives were shot and killed Saturday during a follow-up operation on an armed robbery suspect in Ndume village, Zaka, Masvingo.
In a statement, police spokesperson Paul Nyathi identified the officers as Bernard Chimbeke (37) and Mckenzie Chitsowe (43).
The two were part of a team tracking 50-year-old suspect Daniel Munyanyi for armed robbery cases linked to Harare and surrounding areas.
“The suspect shot and killed two police detectives on 1st March 2026 at 0500 hours at Ndume village, Zaka, Masvingo,” said ZRP national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi.
Police appealed to the public for assistance in locating the suspect.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing for information which may lead to the location and arrest of armed robbery and murder suspect Daniel Munyanyi (50) of Ndume village, Chief Ndanga, Zaka, Masvingo.”
Police leadership conveyed condolences to the affected families. Commissioner-General Stephen Mutamba said he “expresses his deepest condolences to the Chimbeke and Chitsowe families over this unfortunate incident and tragic loss.”
