The South African Guide-Dogs Association recently visited Fourways and Bryanston high schools to teach learners about the important role assistance dogs play in people’s lives.
Johannesburg, South Africa (28 May 2026) – There was plenty of excitement and meaningful lessons when the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind recently visited Fourways High School and Bryanston High School.
The visit gave learners the chance to interact with assistance dogs while also learning more about the important role these specially trained animals play in the lives of people living with disabilities.
According to Paula Agar, the school believes these kinds of experiences help young people better understand the realities many others face every day.
“We absolutely love working with the South African Guide Dog Association,” she said. “This is our second time working with them.”
The interaction with the dogs makes the learning experience more meaningful and relatable for learners, especially teenagers.
“We like the fact that it helps them understand that there are many people out there who have disabilities which make their lives very difficult, and SA Guide Dogs does such an amazing job to help those people.”
The visit also highlighted how small acts of support and awareness can make a meaningful difference. Learners not only had the chance to spend time with the dogs, but were also encouraged to better understand the importance of inclusion, empathy and the life-changing work done by assistance dogs every day.
