Saint Lucia will host the annual CARICOM 10K Road Race on Sunday, July 5, marking the start of Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Week. The route, yet to be announced, will precede the Fiftieth Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM. Local distance runners will have the opportunity to compete against regional athletes.
In recent years, US$1,000 has been awarded to both the men’s and women’s winners. The top male runner will receive the CARICOM Chairman’s Trophy, and the top female runner will receive the CARICOM Secretary-General’s Trophy. The event now also features additional running and walking competitions, including a mile run for youth and junior athletes.
Those trophies are both held by athletes from Trinidad & Tobago, who dominated last year’s race in Jamaica. Alexia John was the top female runner, and Nicholas Romany was the top male.
At last year’s race, Laura-Lynn Limery, who placed third in 2023, finished sixth among the women, while Jason Sayers placed ninth among the men. The 2024 CARICOM 10K, scheduled for Grenada, was cancelled due to Hurricane Beryl.
Zepherinus Joseph was one of the most recent Saint Lucian winners, claiming victory in 2011. Victor Ledgers (2005) and Michael Biscette (2022) have also earned medals at this event.
The CARICOM Secretariat is staging the road race in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Youth Development, Sports, and Digital Transformation and the Saint Lucia Athletics Association.
Saint Lucia’s Prime Minister, Phillip J. Pierre, will host the Heads of Government Conference on CARICOM Day, July 6, 2026.\
