DAR ES SALAAM: SICPA Tanzania participated as a strategic partner at the Viwango Business Forum held on Friday at the Mlimani City Conference Centre in Dar es Salaam, joining national stakeholders in marking the 50th anniversary of the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS).

The forum brought together government institutions, regulators, industry leaders and market stakeholders for a national dialogue on standards, quality assurance and industrial development, as Tanzania reflects on five decades of strengthening its quality infrastructure and prepares for the next phase of economic transformation.

As TBS celebrates its 50-year milestone in advancing standards across the economy, the Viwango Business Forum was positioned as a forward-looking platform aimed at shaping a stronger and more responsive standards ecosystem to support industrialisation, trade and consumer protection.

SICPA’s participation underscored its commitment to strengthening fuel integrity as a key pillar of fair trade, effective governance and sustainable development.

At its exhibition booth, the company showcased the national Fuel Integrity Solution implemented in collaboration with TBS. The system is designed to detect and deter fuel adulteration, smuggling and illicit trade across Tanzania’s petroleum supply chain.

The solution uses advanced forensic markers combined with real-time verification tools that enable regulators and enforcement agencies to detect fuel adulteration with high precision and verify compliance across the supply chain.

According to SICPA Tanzania, the programme has contributed to improved fuel quality compliance, strengthened enforcement capacity among regulatory institutions and supported government efforts to safeguard domestic revenue while promoting a transparent and accountable business environment.

Fuel adulteration, the company noted, has far-reaching economic and social impacts. It damages vehicle engines and industrial equipment, increases maintenance costs for consumers and businesses, and undermines trust in the petroleum market. It also exposes compliant market players to unfair competition while contributing to environmental pollution and health risks.

At the macroeconomic level, illicit fuel trade results in significant revenue losses for governments and distorts fair market competition, ultimately affecting national development priorities.

Since its introduction, the Fuel Integrity Solution has become an important component of Tanzania’s regulatory framework, supporting authorities in strengthening oversight of the petroleum sector and reinforcing long-term trust in fuel quality standards.

Speaking during the forum, SICPA Tanzania General Manager, Mr Alfred Mapunda, said the partnership with TBS reflects the impact of aligning technology, regulatory commitment and public interest.

“SICPA Tanzania is proud to stand alongside TBS as we celebrate 50 years of standards-building in the country. Our collaboration on the Fuel Integrity Solution is a testament to what is achievable when technology, regulatory commitment and public purpose align,” he said.

He added that the Viwango Business Forum provided an important platform for engagement with stakeholders across the standards and regulatory ecosystem.

As Tanzania continues to advance its industrialisation agenda, SICPA Tanzania reaffirmed its commitment to working with TBS and other regulatory institutions to protect consumers, safeguard government revenues, strengthen market integrity and support sustainable national development.
