Can two South African SPCA inspectors dressed as a rescue vehicle outrun a UK sausage and break a Guinness World Record?
Cape Town, South Africa (22 May 2026) – Last year, Cape of Good Hope SPCA inspectors Muhammed Asgar Dalvie and Muhammad Sanglay hatched a plan to run the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon dressed inside ‘Bokkie’, their handmade two-metre foam replica of an SPCA Inspectorate rescue vehicle.
Their goal was for a good cause – to raise funds for their Inspectorate’s fuel costs that keep them mobile and ready to step in when animals need help.
After months of training they arrived at the starting line in October, ready to rumble. Except the weather had other plans, and the marathon was cancelled.

Instead of giving up, Davie and Sanglay set their sights on something greater. This Sunday on 24 May, they’re back to do the Sanlam marathon again…with an ambitious goal in mind.
The Bokkie duo are attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest marathon completed in a two-person costume!
The record to beat currently stands at 3 hours, 17 minutes and 12 seconds, set by Sarah Dudgeon and Max Livingstone-Learmonth at the 2021 Virgin Money London Marathon, where the pair ran as a sausage dog.
Do the Cape of Good Hope SPCA’s duo have what it takes to outrun a sausage? We think so – because their reason is everything. It’s all for the animals!

Every kilometre that inspectorate vehicles travel means another animal can be reached, rescued from cruelty, removed from neglect, or given a second chance.
In the last financial year alone, SPCA inspectors responded to more than 10,000 animal cruelty complaints across a service area of approximately 3,200km². Their 12 vehicles travel up to 60,000km each year.
Keeping just one of those vehicles roadworthy, licensed, insured and operational costs R120,000 annually, with fuel alone accounting for R42,000 of that.
Each of the 42.2 kilometres Dalvie and Sanglay cover on Sunday represents R1000 in fuel that keeps a real rescue vehicle on the road and an inspector moving toward an animal in distress. The goal is to raise R42,000 in total, the full annual fuel cost of a single Inspectorate vehicle.
Thanks to generous supporters, the campaign has already raised over R23,000, with just R19,000 left to go!
