THE Pakistani Canadian Cultural Association of BC (PCCA-BC) hosted its annual Pakistan Day and Eid dinner on Sunday, March 22 in Surrey, bringing together community members, leaders, and elected officials for an evening of celebration, reflection and connection. The event created a vibrant and welcoming space for attendees to come together in recognition of shared Pakistani heritage and community spirit.

Surrey MLAs Amna Shah, Garry Begg, Jessie Sunner, and Jagrup Brar, along with Vancouver MLA Sunita Dhir, were in attendance, engaging with guests and celebrating alongside community leaders and active members of the Pakistani Canadian community.

Pakistan Day, observed annually on March 23, commemorates the historic 1940 Lahore Resolution and the adoption of Pakistan’s first constitution on March 23, 1956, marking significant milestones in the country’s history and identity.

Established 16 years ago, PCCA-BC has become a cornerstone of the Pakistani Canadian community. The organization has played a vital role in supporting newcomers with settlement and integration, while also championing initiatives that preserve, promote, and celebrate Pakistani culture across British Columbia.

The evening featured Pakistan’s Consul General, Shahzad Hussain, as the Chief Guest. During the program, Amna Shah, MLA for Surrey City Centre, presented PCCA-BC with a certificate in recognition of the organization’s outstanding dedication, leadership, and continued contributions to the community.

MLAs Shah, Begg, Brar, Sunner and Dhir also delivered greetings, commending PCCA-BC for its ongoing efforts to foster connection and belonging by creating an inclusive space for the community to gather, celebrate, and honour important cultural milestones year after year.
