Suspects to appear in MP court over R2M illicit cigarette seizure
The pair was arrested in Mbombela and were found in possession of illicit cigarettes
Two Ethiopian nationals are expected to appear in the Mbombela Magistrate Court, Mpumalanga on Monday, for the alleged possession of illicit cigarettes with a street value of about R2-million.
The pair was arrested in Mbombela after a tip-off. They were found in possession of illicit cigarettes amounting to half-a-million rand.
They led the police to a storage facility in White River where more cigarettes were found.
After their arrest on Friday, provincial Hawks spokesperson Magonseni Nkosi confirmed they will be charged with dealing in illicit cigarettes, trafficking and bribery.
Further allegations state that the two attempted to bribe the police officers who effected the arrest.
