The United States is looking to expand trade and investment ties with Namibia, with US assistant secretary of state for African affairs Frank Garcia Jr expressing interest in strengthening economic relations between the two countries.
Garcia made the remarks during a courtesy call on Tuesday to president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on the margins of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The meeting focused on Namibia–US bilateral relations, as well as matters of mutual interest concerning Africa and the broader international agenda.
Discussions also centred on opportunities to increase trade and investment between the two countries.
Nandi-Ndaitwah reaffirmed Namibia’s openness to investment, while stressing that investors must understand and comply with the country’s laws and regulations.
“Namibia is open to investment, but investors must familiarise themselves with and comply with Namibian laws and regulations,” she said.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continued engagement and strengthening bilateral relations.
The meeting was held at the permanent mission of Namibia to the United Nations.
