Directed by Nigerian Alté creative Odunsi the Engine and filmed in Lagos, the video embraces a deeply rooted celebration of tradition while blending it with modern fashion, music, and visual storytelling. Through carefully crafted scenes inspired by Yoruba culture and contemporary African creativity, “YSF” becomes more than just a music video — it feels like a statement of cultural pride and reconnection.
Born Olubowale Victor Akintimehin to Nigerian immigrant parents, Wale has long incorporated his heritage into his artistry. While his career is often associated with Washington D.C. and the DMV scene, “YSF” offers one of his most intentional explorations of his Nigerian roots to date, placing African identity at the center of the visual and musical experience.
Shot entirely on 16mm film, the video carries a nostalgic and cinematic texture that enhances its storytelling.
