Watch Tyla Reveal Her ‘A*Pop’ Tracklist Using Fluorescent Spray Paint
The Grammy-winning singer's sophomore album arrives on July 24.
Tyla’s almost ready to pop out. The “Water” singer revealed the tracklist for her upcoming A*Pop album on Wednesday (July 15), ahead of the LP’s arrival on July 24.
Instead of a typical post to social media, the South African artist got creative to showcase the tracklist. She headed to a blacklight room and spray-painted each song title on the walls in fluorescent colors while her “She Did It Again” collaboration with Zara Larsson provided the soundtrack.
The album is 14 tracks and boasts previously released singles including “Chanel,” “Is It,” “Is It Love” and “She Did It Again.” Other songs fans can expect include “That Girl,” “Kiss,” “Fairytale,” “Mr. Nonchalant” and “Hot Tubs.”
“Chanel” arrived in October as the project’s lead single and reached No. 43 on the Billboard Hot 100. It eventually topped the Rhythmic Airplay chart in March, while “She Did It Again” peaked at No. 59 on the Hot 100.
Tyla spoke to Billboard Africa earlier in July about the meaning behind A*Pop, as she looks to mesh the worlds of African music and pop.
“A*Pop is just something that came to me. It just makes so much sense. I’ve always wanted to be this pop star. I just hate being restricted and limited. I hate following rules. I hate being polished. For a long time, I felt like I had to be something in order to be a pop star,” she said. “I bring the A to pop. It’s African pop; African music is pop music.”
A*Pop serves as the follow-up to her 2024 self-titled debut, which debuted at No. 24 on the Billboard 200. Tyla also dove into the movie world this year. In June, she made her voice-acting debut in Toy Story 5 as the inflatable flamingo.
