World Bank appoints Mocci as Namibian country manager

The World Bank Group has appointed Stefano Mocci as its new country manager for Namibia, effective 1 July.

Mocci will oversee the World Bank Group’s work in Namibia across the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the International Finance Corporation and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency.

His role will include working with the government, the private sector, civil society and development partners to support projects aimed at boosting economic growth, creating jobs and improving resilience.

“I am honoured to take up this role at an important moment for Namibia, as the country implements the Sixth National Development Plan and pursues its development priorities across sectors,” Mocci says.

“Guided by our country partnership framework, a closely aligned bank group approach will help us support projects and advance the job agenda for inclusive and sustainable prosperity for the people of Namibia,” he adds.

The World Bank Group says its partnership with Namibia will focus on strengthening government capacity to design and implement policies, supporting private sector growth and helping the economy move towards a greener and more inclusive growth path.

Mocci brings more than 20 years of experience within the World Bank Group, with work spanning Africa, the Middle East and the Pacific.

Before taking up his Namibia role, he served as World Bank Group country manager for Fiji and the South Pacific, and as World Bank country manager for Papua New Guinea.
