A Different World gave us Whitley Gilbert, Dwayne Wayne, Freddie Brooks, Ron Johnson and one of the most iconic fictional HBCUs of all time.
But some of the drama behind the scenes at Hillman College was almost as interesting as what we saw on TV.
The Cosby Show spinoff premiered in 1987 with Lisa Bonet at the center, but after just one season, the show went through a major transformation. Cast members disappeared, Debbie Allen stepped in, controversial episodes caused problems with advertisers and network executives, and some familiar faces almost never made it onto the show.
