THE GAMBIA WOOS MORE NIGERIAN TOURISTS AT AKWAABA 2026

The Gambia has intensified efforts to attract more Nigerian tourists as part of a broader strategy to strengthen tourism, travel and business ties between the two countries.

Speaking in Lagos on the sidelines of the 22nd Akwaaba African Travel Market, Minister of Tourism and Culture Abdoulie Jobe and Gambia Tourism Board Director General Ida Jeng Njie called on Nigerian travellers, tour operators, travel agents, influencers and media practitioners to explore and promote The Gambia as a preferred tourism destination.

The Gambian delegation used the international travel market to showcase the country’s tourism potential and highlight opportunities for stronger cooperation with Nigeria’s growing travel industry.

Officials said The Gambia and Nigeria share strong historical and cultural ties, while the country’s beaches, heritage sites, cuisine, hospitality and entertainment offer Nigerian visitors a wide range of experiences.

The Gambia, widely known as the Smiling Coast of Africa, is seeking to position itself as a strategic tourism partner for the Nigerian market, with greater emphasis on increasing visitor numbers and developing stronger links between tourism stakeholders in the two countries.

The Akwaaba African Travel Market brings together tourism authorities, airlines, tour operators, travel agencies, hospitality businesses and other industry stakeholders from across Africa and beyond.
