By Zoila Palma: The Belize Police Department, through the National Police Training Academy (NPTA), has successfully completed a one-month Enforcement Training Programme for 53 Belize City Council Traffic Wardens. The programme was delivered in two separate two-week cohorts and was designed to prepare the participants for expanded enforcement responsibilities.
The training focused on strengthening the wardens’ legal knowledge, professionalism and operational skills, while helping them better understand their responsibilities when interacting with members of the public.
Participants took part in classroom instruction, practical exercises and scenario-based learning to prepare them for real-world enforcement situations.
The programme concluded with a closing ceremony attended by representatives of the Belize Police Department, NPTA, Belize City Council, instructors and the participating traffic wardens.
In his remarks, Commissioner of Police Rosado highlighted the significance of the powers and responsibilities being entrusted to the participants as they transition into their new roles as Special Constables.
Commissioner Rosado reminded the participants that “with great power comes greater responsibility,” stressing that their authority must be exercised with integrity, discipline, professionalism, accountability and respect for the rights of the public. He encouraged them to recognize the trust placed in them and to ensure their conduct reflects positively on the Belize Police Department, Belize City Council and the wider law enforcement community.
The training was facilitated by members of the NPTA, including Assistant Superintendent Jermaine Hyde, Sergeant 1270 Leon Ferguson and Corporal Maurice Martinez, along with other instructors and personnel.
