Not all heroes wear capes; some drive patrol vehicles. Four Cape Town Safety Officers are being praised as ‘angels’ after stepping in to help an elderly mother and her daughter when they needed it most.
Cape Town, South Africa (28 May 2026) – When Veronica found herself struggling to help her elderly, wheelchair-bound mother into her car outside Netcare Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital, assistance arrived in the unexpected form of four real-life angels.
Veronica’s mother had just finished one of her three intense weekly dialysis sessions at the hospital. As Veronica and a nurse struggled to get her into the vehicle, four Safety & Security officers of the Cape Town Central City Improvement District, who happened to be on patrol in the area, noticed the situation and stopped to help.
In a heartfelt message to CCID Safety & Security manager Jurie Bruwer, Veronica explained how deeply moved she was by the gesture. She and the nurse hadn’t asked for help, she noted, but were simply doing what they do every single week.
“Yet these four men chose to stop, notice, and help anyway. Getting her safely into the car can be quite difficult. Yesterday, as her nurse and I were helping her in, a CCID vehicle pulled up and, almost like angels appearing out of nowhere, four of your team members immediately came to help,” she shared.
The four men identified as Hebe, Madyosi, Mfakadolo and Sopazi worked together to gently and carefully lift Veronica’s mother into the car with what she described as kindness, dignity and care.
“They hardly said a word. They simply saw people needing help and stepped in.”
“In today’s world, where everyone is rushing and often staying in their own lane, this felt beyond incredible. It was the purest example of human kindness and compassion, and it affected me far more than I can explain. As quickly as they arrived, they disappeared again, not wanting anything in return. I was so overwhelmed that I asked for a photo and their names because I truly believe moments like this deserve to be acknowledged and celebrated,” Veronica continued.
These public safety officers are known for being diligent and exceptionally vigilant, but on that particular day, Officers Hebe, Madyosi, Mfakadolo, and Sopazi turned a difficult, ordinary moment into a profound act of kindness that Veronica will never forget, and one that has beautifully touched hearts everywhere.
