By Zoila Palma: Belizean Chevening Scholar Edwin Varela is being recognized for his contribution to an innovative engineering project at Cranfield University in the United Kingdom.
As a member of the CranSEDS Hybrid Propulsion Rocket Team, Varela collaborated with students from around the world to design and test a hybrid rocket motor, culminating in a successful engine test after more than eight months of dedicated work.
The achievement highlights the opportunities available through the Chevening Scholarship programme, which allows emerging leaders to apply their academic knowledge in real-world settings while building international networks.
Chevening Scholarships are fully funded by the UK and enable outstanding individuals from around the world to pursue one-year master’s degrees at UK universities.
