Lambeth Green Party members have been issued with a formal ballot to ratify Martin Abrams as the new leader of the Green Group of councillors, following an internal vote by the newly elected 29‑strong group earlier this week.
The email, sent to members late this afternoon, confirms that the councillor group has already selected its preferred leadership slate, and that electronic voting closed at 6pm today:
Martin Abrams — Leader (Cllr for Streatham Hill East)
Ciara Alleyne — Deputy Leader (Herne Hill & Loughborough Junction)
Natalie Kane — Deputy Leader (Brixton Acre Lane)
Serafina Spicer — Co‑chair (Brixton Windrush)
Matt Wilcock — Co‑chair (Knights Hill)
Under Green Party rules, the leadership chosen by councillors must be ratified by the wider local membership. The ballot is being conducted through Helios, the party’s secure voting platform, and will remain open until 6pm on Wednesday 13 May 2026.
The email stresses that the leadership team will not take office until ratification is complete. However, if turnout does not reach the required 10% quorum, the slate will be automatically approved — a standard mechanism in Green Party internal elections.
This ratification vote follows a dramatic local election in which the Greens became the largest party in Lambeth for the first time, ending Labour’s 20‑year control of the borough.
