King returns with her much-anticipated second album The Light Ahead, produced by acclaimed vocalist Claire Martin OBE and released on the Peccadillo label, combining jazz and neo-soul with disco-era flair.
The twelve-track record pairs eight originals with covers by Stevie Wonder, Clifton Davis and Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil. Lead single Ain’t Gonna Rain was recently featured as Jazzwise’s Video of the Day.
The Light Ahead follows up her acclaimed 2024 debut Fire Horse, which she performed to a sold-out crowd at the Herne Hill Music Festival. That album, born from an emotional journey through lockdown and the loss of her father, a jazz trumpeter and bandleader, drew praise from Jazz Views and put King on the radar of the London jazz circuit.
Since then she’s sold out at the EFG London Jazz Festival 2025, toured Stockholm with her Swedish trio and become a regular at Pizza Express Soho and the 606 Club. Her music features on Jazz FM and BBC Radio 3.
The daughter of that jazz trumpeter and granddaughter of an orchestral conductor and pianist, King told Jazzwise: “I wanted to write something uplifting. All that matters is today, let’s focus on that. Stop longing, stop wondering… just be, and enjoy.”
She’ll be joined by Jim Watson on piano and keys, whose credits include Sting, Kurt Elling and Chrissie Hynde, Laurence Cottle on electric bass and Jamie Murray on drums.
