Busta Rhymes has reached a private settlement with former assistant Dashiel Gables, ending a legal battle that included assault allegations and a defamation countersuit, according to Rolling Stone.
Gables accused the Grammy-nominated rapper of punching him outside Rhymes’ Brooklyn apartment in 2023 after a dispute involving a delayed meal and a phone call Gables took from his young daughter. CBS News New York reported that Rhymes, born Trevor George Smith Jr., was arrested and issued a desk appearance ticket for third-degree assault, though the criminal case has since been sealed.
Gables later filed a federal civil suit alleging assault, battery and workplace abuse, claiming the incident left him blacklisted in the industry. Rhymes denied the allegations and countersued for defamation, arguing the claims damaged his reputation and cost him business.
Attorneys for both sides told the court this week that the matter has been resolved through private mediation. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
