The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has announced the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Microsoft, aimed at strengthening cooperation in supporting artificial intelligence adoption across emerging businesses.
The agreement was signed during the EBRD annual meetings in Amsterdam and establishes a framework for collaboration focused on a pilot programme designed to enable and optimise the use of AI among high-potential startups in Africa. The initiative is intended to help early-stage companies become more scalable and commercially viable.
Through the pilot, participating founders will be supported in strengthening their core business capabilities, improving operational performance, and accelerating their readiness for growth. The programme is also expected to enhance the ability of startups to compete in both local and international markets by integrating advanced digital tools.
The collaboration brings together the EBRD’s regional presence, investment portfolio, and ecosystem expertise with Microsoft’s AI platforms, technical capabilities, and global partner network. The overall goal is to equip startups and small and medium-sized enterprises across Africa with practical tools to improve productivity, competitiveness, and long-term commercial growth.
