The National Council’s standing committee on education, science, information and communication technology (ICT) and youth development has started a stakeholder engagement programme.

Speaking at the opening of the stakeholder engagement session at Otjiwarongo on Monday, committee chairperson Bethuel Tjaveondja said the programme would allow members to engage directly with institutions under the committee’s oversight to better understand their challenges and priorities.

“The purpose of these briefing sessions is to deepen the committee’s understanding of the performance, opportunities and challenges within Namibia’s education, science, research, innovation and ICT sectors,” Tjaveondja said.

He said the engagements would help the committee measure whether institutions are fulfilling their roles and contributing to national development priorities in education, research, innovation and skills development.

The committee is expected to engage with institutions including the National Council for Higher Education, the Namibia University of Science and Technology, the National Training Authority, teacher unions, the Namibia National Students Organisation and the Public Service Commission during the programme.
