Gear Up for Winter and Support NSRI’s Lifesaving Work All At Once

SA’s heroic sea rescue volunteers have dropped a winter range, and every purchase goes back into saving lives!

South Africa (01 June 2026) – The NSRI doesn’t wait for good weather. Neither should your winter gear!

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) has been saving lives on South Africa’s coastline since 1967. Entirely non-profit and largely volunteer-driven, the NSRI operates across more than 50 rescue stations around the country, responding to emergencies at sea, in rivers, and along our coastlines. Their crews are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and they don’t get paid for it.

Supporting the NSRI matters. In winter, there’s a great, practical way to do it!

The organisation has just launched a new winter range of performance gear. The collection was developed with direct input from rescue volunteers who work in harsh, unpredictable conditions. In other words – every piece of gear has been designed to handle everything a South African winter can throw at you.

At the core of the range is the Gale Waterproof Jacket, named after Brad Gale, the NSRI’s Head of Retail and a volunteer Response Rescue Swimmer himself, who led the development of the collection.

“Drawing on my retail background and as an NSRI volunteer Response Rescue Swimmer, I set out to elevate it to the standard of local lifestyle brands,” says Gale. “The seasonal range is an extension of that strategy, responding to supporter demand for performance gear that works in South Africa’s wet winter conditions.”

The range also includes heavy-duty waterproof bags, headwear and the ever-popular green-and-gold supporters’ jersey.

The NSRI’s winter range was hugely successful last year, with over 11,000 items sold.

The good thing about showing your support, is that every purchase made goes towards funding the organisation’s lifesaving operations, like keeping stations equipped, trained and ready to launch at a moment’s notice.

You can explore the full collection at the NSRI online store.
