POLICE have arrested two more suspects on allegations of being part of the gang suspected of killing prominent businessman Joseph Mutangadura last year.

The total number of suspects arrested over the murder is now nine.

The latest suspects, Solomon Wisdom Tariro (28) and Samuel Munyunguma (51), were nabbed in Gweru following a bloody shootout in the Midlands province’s capital city, leading to the death of their accomplice Valentine Mutasa (34).

In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest.

“The ZRP confirms the arrest of two other suspects, Solomon Wisdom Tariro (28) as well as Samuel Munyunguma (51) in connection with the case,” said Nyathi.

He said the gun exchange that ensued in Gweru on Thursday followed a tip off received by Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Homicide detectives regarding the whereabouts of the suspects.

“Acting on the received information, the detectives tracked the suspects to a service station in Claremont, Gweru. The suspects opened fire upon being confronted by police, leading to the shootout. The other suspect, Obedience Mutasa managed to escape.

“Subsequently, Solomon Tariro and Valentine Mutasa were injured and were referred to hospital where Valentine Mutasa was pronounced dead upon admission,” said Nyathi.

Police reportedly recovered a 9mm Canik pistol with two live rounds and an Ekol 9mm blank pistol with two blank cartridges.

ZRP informed the public that all suspects linked to the cold-blooded killing of the 67-year-old businessman on August 17, 2025, at Mutangadura Hideout Farm, Ruwa, have been accounted for.
