SURREY’S Kap’s Cafe at 84 Avenue and Scott Road that had recently reopened after it was targeted on July 8 was once again shot at overnight, according to media reports.
The cafe, owned by Indian comedian-actor Kapil Sharma, had some half a dozen bullet holes in its windows. Surrey Police officers were at the scene this morning.

Surrey Police Service said in a press release at 7:50 a.m. that its officers are investigating a shots fired incident at that business.

At approximately 4:40 a.m. on August 7, SPS Frontline officers responded to a report of shots fired outside that business. Numerous SPS police resources and Delta Police Department units responded and while it appears multiple shots caused damage to the windows and building, fortunately, the staff on premises were uninjured.

SPS thanked Delta Police Department officers who also responded to this incident.

Surrey Police Service Frontline Investigative Support (FLIS) Team has assumed conduct of the investigation.

Meanwhile, on social media Goldy Dhillon, who’s reportedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang of India, took responsibility for the attack. The post that has not been verified claims that the gang called Kapil Sharma, but he did not answer the call; so they had to take action. It added: “If he still does not respond, then we will take the next action in Mumbai soon.”

Back in July, after the first shooting incident, timesnow.com reported that Laddi wrote in a post: “In an episode of Kapil Sharma’s comedy show ‘The Kapil Sharma Show,’ a character made some humorous remarks about the dress or behaviour of Nihang Sikhs. These remarks were considered to hurt the religious sentiments of Nihang Sikhs. This mockery is a mockery of Sikh spiritual traditions and the dignity of Nihang Sikhs. No religion or spiritual identity can be made fun of in the guise of comedy.”

He wanted Kapil Sharma to apologize publicly.

Sharma did not apologize and instead the cafe, which is run by his wife Ginni Charthrath, said in a statement on the Kap’s Cafe’s Instagram page: “We opened Kap’s Cafe with hopes of bringing warmth, community, and joy through delicious coffee and friendly conversation. To have violence intersect with that dream is heartbreaking. We are processing this shock, but we are not giving up.  Thank you for Your Support. Your kind words, prayers, and memories shared via DM mean more than you know. This cafe exists because of your belief in what we’re building together. Let’s stand firm against violence and ensure Kap’s Cafe remains a place of warmth and community.”

Anyone with information about this incident or who may have been in the area at the time and has dashcam footage is asked to contact the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 25-66351 (SP) or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca.
