Jordyn Henderson: Building a Future in Science Through Leadership and Service

Jordyn Henderson is a dedicated student, emerging leader, and community-minded scholar with a strong commitment to education, service, and STEM. Her passion for helping others—both in Milwaukee and beyond—has shaped her leadership experiences, service work, and future career goals.

Jordyn built a strong foundation in leadership through the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s PEOPLE Program, Purpose Driven Sisters, C.H.A.R.M., National Honor Society, and clubs at Rufus King IB High School. These experiences helped her balance rigorous academics with extracurricular involvement while developing the ability to set goals, collaborate with others, take risks, learn from challenges, and serve as a positive role model.

Service has been a consistent part of Jordyn’s journey. One of her most memorable volunteer experiences was traveling to Tanzania, where she helped distribute school supplies to 1,400 students. Experiences like this strengthened her passion for giving back and deepened her interest in learning about people, communities, and the systems that support health and education.

Now a student at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, Jordyn continues to pursue service and leadership through campus and community involvement. She was inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta, a first-year honor society recognizing students who earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher. She also serves through SpelReads as an Academic Lead, supporting children in local Atlanta schools with tutoring and reading comprehension. In addition, she works with MASTERS as an Elementary Math Tutor at KIPP Primary School, helping students build confidence in arithmetic and problem-solving. Through GLOW, a faith-based sisterhood organization at Spelman, Jordyn participates in weekly community service while building meaningful connections with others. Academically, Jordyn plans to major in Biology and minor in Biochemistry. She hopes to become a Medical Laboratory Scientist and eventually a Clinical Pathologist, where she can analyze cells, tissue, blood, and other specimens to help detect illness and support patient care. Her interest in microscopes, laboratory analysis, and independent scientific work continues to guide her career path. This summer, she plans to earn her phlebotomy certification to further strengthen her preparation for lab-based medical work.
