Kenya Begins Digital Literacy Programme Phase II Device Rollout in Nairobi

Kenya has commenced the second phase of its Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) device rollout in Nairobi County, as the government expands the use of technology in teaching and learning across public Junior Schools.

The Nairobi rollout was launched at Lenana Primary School by Principal Secretary for ICT and the Digital Economy, Eng. John Tanui, alongside Dagoretti South MP and Chairperson of the National Assembly Committee on Communication, Information and Innovation, Hon. John Kiarie, and ICT Authority CEO Jessy Maruti.

Implemented by the ICT Authority under the Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Project (KDEAP), Phase II involves the deployment of teacher laptops and interactive smartboards to 10,382 public Junior Schools across Kenya’s 47 counties.

In Nairobi County, devices have already been delivered to all 98 targeted schools. Installation, inspection and acceptance have been completed in 91 schools, representing a 92.9 per cent completion rate for the county rollout.

The device deployment is being supported by teacher training aimed at strengthening educators’ digital skills and enabling the effective use of technology in classrooms. The programme is intended to enhance digital learning and prepare students with skills relevant to an increasingly technology-driven economy.
