MAROALA FC head coach, Molebatsi Mothobi, has opted against remaining with the club for the 2026/27 season after completing a move to Women’s Super League side, Lijabatho Ladies.

Mothobi took charge of Maroala during the second half of the 2025/26 campaign but was unable to prevent the club from losing its Vodacom Premier League status. Maroala were relegated to the A Division League alongside Liphakoe after finishing among the bottom teams.

With the club now preparing for life in the second tier, Mothobi decided not to extend his stay.

The coach joined Maroala earlier this year after replacing Bahlokoana ‘Kenny’ Mohoanyane, who left to take over at Lioli. He inherited a team already battling relegation, with hopes that his experience would help steer the club to safety. Despite his efforts, Maroala failed to avoid the drop.

Before joining Maroala, Mothobi was in charge of A Division League outfit Rangers.

The Lesotho Times had established that Mothobi informed Maroala management of his decision to leave after the expiry of his contract.

“His contract has lapsed and he asked to be released so that he can explore his next destination,” a source told the Lesotho Times.

Lijabatho yesterday confirmed Mothobi’s appointment as the new head coach of their Women’s Super League side.

“We are delighted to officially welcome Coach Molebatsi Mothobi as the new Head Coach of our Ladies Team,” the club announced.

“Molebatsi is no stranger to our club. His return brings valuable experience, dedication and a deep understanding of our club’s values.”

Mothobi is familiar with the Lijabatho setup, having previously served as part of the technical team of the club’s senior men’s side.

His appointment ends speculation linking him with several Premier League clubs that had expressed interest in securing his services following his departure from Maroala.

Widely regarded as one of Lesotho’s most accomplished local coaches, Mothobi is among the few coaches in the country who hold a Confederation of African Football (CAF) A Coaching Licence.

His biggest achievement came during the 2021/22 season when he guided Matlama to the Premier League title. He has also worked as an assistant coach at Lijabatho, LMPS and Linare, building extensive experience across the domestic game.
