Retiree alleges land documents ‘scam’ by alleged High Court employee

By Aaron Humes: Police are investigating a case of obtaining money for services by deception.

The complainant is a retiree of Belize City who told police that in September 2025, she met a female who claimed to be a clerk at the Belize High Court, who offered to assist her with obtaining legal land documents for a fee.

Between September 2025 and February of 2026, the complainant made monthly cash payments in person to the accused, to a total of $2,500. Since February, she has lost communication with the accused and has yet to receive her document or money.

One person is being sought as part of police investigations.
