SURREY City Council has directed staff to file notices on title on two Surrey properties, where significant additions and alterations were made without the required permits.
“We’re holding to our commitment to a zero-tolerance approach when it comes to illegal construction,” said Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke on Tuesday. “The City will continue to prioritize residents’ safety and require property owners to comply with regulations. This helps maintain consistent standards across neighbourhoods and ensures the integrity of the City’s building process.”
Details on construction completed without permits are as follows:
12464 77A Avenue:
- A two-storey addition to the rear of the house, including two dwelling units;
- A two-storey addition to the west side of the house;
- An addition to the garage, which includes a dwelling unit; and
- A deck at the front of the house.
13466 87A Avenue:
- Two additions to the house, which include dwelling units;
- Multiple dwelling units in the basement of the house;
- Two decks; and
- An accessory building with a dwelling unit.
A notice on title under Section 57 of the Community Charter is a legal measure used by a city to inform the public, including potential purchasers, about unauthorized structures on a property that were built without the necessary building permits and inspections.
