A BANKET teenager, Tapera Muzambi, has been sentenced to imprisonment for assaulting his neighbour until she fell unconscious before raping her.
Muzambi aged 19 appeared at Chinhoyi Magistrates Court facing two counts: attempted murder and rape. Despite his not guilty pleas, the offender was convicted on both counts. For count one, he was slapped with a two-year jail term while count two attracted a 15-year custodial term.
Court heard that during the night of March 6, 2026, Muzambi proceeded to his victim’s residence at a plot situated at Dulwich farm, Banket, and forced entry by breaking the door, before demanding cash.
Sensing danger, the victim, a 43-year-old woman, bolted out of the bedroom while naked. Assailant pursued her, and attacked her with an unknown object all over her body until she fell unconscious. Muzambi proceeded to sexually violate the woman as she lay haplessly.
She later regained consciousness around 3am the next morning and sought help from a neighbour before the matter was reported to police, who tracked the attacker who had been positively identified by the victim.
