Motorists are being advised of temporary traffic changes today to facilitate the National Cultural Foundation’s annual Ceremonial Delivery of the Last Canes.
The event will be held between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., with several road closures and parking restrictions taking effect from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
During that period, St Michael Row, Constitution Road and Crumpton Street will be closed to vehicular traffic. Only vehicles authorised by the festival committee will be permitted access.
No parking will also be allowed along Nursery Drive Road, John Beckles Drive, Martindale’s Road and River Road, except for picking up or dropping off passengers.
The Barbados Police Service said officers will be deployed to manage traffic and reminded motorists that anyone who fails to comply with the traffic restrictions or directions from police may be liable to a fine of $500 or imprisonment for up to three months.
Emergency vehicles, including those operated by the police, Barbados Defence Force and Barbados Fire Service, are exempt from the restrictions.
