Troops recover abandoned vehicle after suspected terrorist ambush in Katsina

Troops of the Quick Reaction Force attached to 17 Brigade have recovered an abandoned vehicle after suspected terrorists reportedly ambushed commuters along the Karaduwa–Matazu road in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.

According to a security update shared by analyst Bakatsine on X, “On 4 May 2026, a team of Quick Reaction Force from 17 Brigade deployed at Forward Operating Base Matazu received a distress call about terrorists that waylaid commuters along Karaduwa-Matazu road in Matazu LGA. Troops immediately mobilised to the scene, but the terrorists had fled on sighting advancing troops.”

The report added, “However, troops engaged them in a hot pursuit along their escape route, but no contact was established.”

During a search of the area, troops recovered an ash-coloured Volkswagen Golf vehicle with registration number KJA 743 FP, which was reportedly travelling from Kafin Soli to Matazu.

The statement said the vehicle was later handed over to the Divisional Police Officer of Matazu, SP Ahmed Hamisu, for further investigation and necessary action.

Authorities also noted that calm has returned to the area, while security monitoring continues.
