Uncle charged after throwing a punch at his teenage nephew

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A family dispute in San Pablo Village, Orange Walk District, has ended with a man charged with common assault, after his teenage nephew reported being attacked in his own yard.

According to the Belize Police Department, the 17-year-old, a construction worker of the village, visited the Trial Farm Police Sub Station on Sunday, July 12, 2026, to make the report, accompanied by his grandmother.

The teen told police that on the night of Saturday, July 11, at about 8:00 p.m., he was stepping out the back door of his home, heading toward the kitchen a few feet away, when a male relative, a man he has known for years as they share a family home, ran toward him and threw a punch at his face. He managed to dodge most of the blow, which grazed his left cheek and caused pain. Other relatives stepped in and separated the man, and the teen told police the lighting allowed him to clearly see who attacked him. He requested court action.

Police recorded a statement from the complainant in the presence of his grandmother, and a 47-year-old construction worker of San Pablo Village was detained pending charges.

On Sunday afternoon, police formally arrested and charged the man with the crime of common assault.

The name of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of the minor complainant, given the family relationship between them.
