World Indoor champion and Olympic gold medallist Julien Alfred is the fastest woman in the world over 60m.
She ran 7.00 seconds to win the women’s 60m final at the Woo Pig Classic at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas, minutes after running 7.04 in the preliminaries. That mark, at the time, was the best time in the world indoors.
The 24-year-old from Ciceron was originally announced in the lineup for last weekend’s Millrose Games, but opted instead to get her season underway in Fayetteville. The University of Texas graduate had not competed since taking 100m bronze at the Tokyo World Championships last September, 146 days ago. Her last 60m run was far further back, 707 days ago, when she took gold at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.
This year, the Olympic 100m champion has not only vowed to return to the World Indoor Championships, which will be held next month (March) in Kujawy Pomorze, Poland. She has also taken aim at the world record, held by Russia’s Irina Privalova.
