Uganda Premier League side UPDF recently held their Annual General Meeting to reflect on the 2025/26 season, make plans for the upcoming season but also project a strategic plan for the club.
The Meeting was held on Tueasay last week at Ndere Cultural Centre in Kampala with several items and decisions reached at.
Key among those was the appointment of new leadership of the football club with Brig. Gen Richard Karemire confirmed as the new Chairman, replacing Lt. Col Andrew Kulu, who will now serve as the Vice Chairman.
In UPDF, Karemire has served in several dockets including being Director Counter Intelligence CMI, Deputy Chief of Miltary Intelligence in charge of International and Diplomatic Affairs and Deputy Liason Officer – UN Observer Mission Uganda/Rwanda.
Currently, Karemire serves as the head Joint Staff Formal Education Sports and Culture (JS FESC) UPDF.
The club’s Board of Directors comprises Lieutenant Muhereza, representing the Special Forces Command on behalf of Colonel Gilbert Owamagyezi; Colonel Robert Ngabirano, representing the Air Force; Major Kategaya; Captain Phionah Kanohire; Captain Lutwama; and Captain Katongole, who represents the fans.
In the same breath, the Army side also appointed Lieutenant Sheldon Turyamureeba as the new CEO, replacing Lance Corporal Walter Mambo.

The club also passed a UGX 3.8 Billion budget for the next season, UPDF FC, UPDF Women FC, and the UPDF Junior Team (U17) with the main source of funding being Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA) and Wazzalendo SACCO.
In his speech Brig. Gen. Karemire emphasized the need for progress of the team and aiming beyond survival which had become the norm.
“I want to appreciate the new responsibilty entrusted upon me and confirm that we shall perform to our best to uplift the standards of the club. In the previous seasons, survival had become our strategy but we should aim beyond that and make sure UPDF is a formidable team.” He said.
The new CEO Turyamureeba emphasized the need to have a strong club secretariat that will run the football club on a daily basis.
