*A fresh take on a horror classic is on the way. ITN Distribution has released the first trailer for its upcoming remake of “Night of the Living Dead,” previewing a brutal world overrun by the undead.

Vivica A. Fox and WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam headline the production, which is directed by Christopher Ray. Brittany Underwood, Robert Carradine, Miko Hughes, Zack Ward, and Adam Huss round out the ensemble, per Coming Soon.

The official synopsis sets the stage: “A remake of George Romero’s 1968 cult classic horror film, Night of the Living Dead takes place during a worldwide event in which the dead rise and roam the earth as zombies. As civilization collapses, a small group of survivors must fight to stay alive against the growing threat of the walking dead.” ITN Distribution has yet to announce a release date. The new film is rooted in one of horror cinema’s most significant works. George A. Romero’s original “Night of the Living Dead” arrived in 1968 as a fully independent production, with Romero handling directing, cinematography, and editing duties. The film starred Duane Jones as Ben and is widely regarded as a genre-defining achievement, credited with establishing the blueprint for zombie storytelling in popular culture while weaving in pointed observations about racial tension and societal shifts in America during that era.

The original debuted on October 1, 1968, just before the MPAA rating system took effect. Its unflinching portrayal of violence drew immediate backlash, but audiences and critics eventually came around, elevating the film to cult status and placing it among cinema’s most celebrated and studied works. Against a shoestring budget, it pulled in $12 million domestically and $18 million internationally, returning more than 250 times its production costs.

Romero expanded his original vision into a full franchise, with five follow-up films hitting screens at various points from 1978 through 2009.
