ZIMBABWE senior men’s national soccer team Warriors goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze will not be leaving Magesi FC, even after the club’s relegation from the Betway Premiership.
The Limpopo club slipped out of South Africa’s top flight at the end of the 2025/26 season, sparking speculation that the 40-year-old would seek another top-tier team. But new Magesi head coach Kabelo Sibiya says Chipezeze remains part of the blueprint for the National First Division season ahead.
Sibiya confirmed the Zimbabwean will stay while the club continues to sort out contracts with other players.
“I’m not in a position to name the full squad yet. There are still ongoing contract talks,” Sibiya said.
“But I can mention Chipeze. He’s one of the players we are keeping. The club will announce the rest in due course.”
The veteran shot-stopper has been central to Magesi since arriving from Baroka FC in 2022.
He was key to their promotion to the Premiership in 2024 and played a starring role in their fairytale Carling Knockout Cup win the same year. Chipezeze walked away with Man of the Match in every single game, including the final where Magesi upset giants Mamelodi Sundowns.
Having also turned out for Baroka and Chicken Inn, Chipezeze’s decision to stay is seen as a big boost as Magesi chase an immediate return to the PSL.
