Zambia has reinforced its commitment to advancing digital identity systems as a cornerstone of national development following its participation at the ID4Africa Conference held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, which concluded on May 15, 2026.
The conference brought together governments, development partners, and digital identity experts from across Africa to discuss the future of identity management on the continent.
Zambia was represented by a multi-sectoral delegation including the SMART Zambia Institute (E-Government Division), the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security, the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Bank of Zambia.
During the sessions, the delegation participated in high-level discussions focused on how digital identity can improve public service delivery, strengthen financial inclusion, support agricultural transformation, and enhance data protection frameworks.
The engagement also allowed Zambia to exchange best practices with other African countries working to build secure, inclusive, and scalable digital identity ecosystems.
As the conference concluded, Zambia reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging digital identity as a foundational enabler of sustainable development, improved governance, and more efficient public service delivery across the country.
