BREAKING NEWS: Flood emergency worsens across Belize as major highways become impassable

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) has issued Information Bulletin Number Two, warning Belizeans of dangerous flooding conditions affecting several major roads and bridges across the country.

According to NEMO, ongoing excessive rainfall has severely impacted transportation routes, particularly in the Stann Creek District, prompting officials to urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and remain alert.

One of the most significant concerns is the closure of Mile 7 on the Hummingbird Highway, which has been declared impassable due to flooding. Authorities have also confirmed that Mile 16 on the Coastal Plain Highway is impassable, creating major travel disruptions for motorists.

The warning comes after an intense overnight rainfall event. NEMO reported that Kendall in the Stann Creek District recorded an astonishing 321.4 millimeters, or approximately 12.7 inches, of rain within a short period, making it the highest rainfall total recorded during the latest weather system.

Other areas remain open but require extreme caution. Motorists traveling near Mountain View Village, Hope Creek, Canada Hill Junction, and the Kendal Bridge area are being advised to drive carefully due to hazardous conditions and rising water levels.

NEMO is urging Belizeans not to drive through flooded roadways and to remain alert for debris, damaged road surfaces, and rapidly changing conditions. Emergency officials say conditions continue to be monitored closely and additional updates will be issued as necessary. The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) has issued Information Bulletin Number Two, warning Belizeans of dangerous flooding conditions affecting several major roads and bridges across the country.
