The Sandals/SLNCA Under-19 Cricket final will feature a familiar rivalry, after Central Castries and Gros Islet secured dominant semifinal victories. The two heavyweights will lock horns this Sunday, March 8, starting at 9:30 AM at Mindoo Philip Park.
Central Castries secured their spot with a 10-wicket victory over Choiseul Under-19 at Mindoo Philip Park. Capitalising on home conditions, the Castries bowlers skittled Choiseul for a mere 70 runs in just 14.3 overs.
This collapse was largely triggered by Cypriani Norville, who produced a stellar spell of 4 wickets for 20 runs. Norville was well-supported by Tyler Venner (3/32) and Aaron St. Clair (2/4).
Central Castries made light work of the chase, racing to 75 without loss in just 4.4 overs. Captain Theo Edward led the charge, smashing an unbeaten 49, including five fours and four sixes.
Seven-time champions Gros Islet Under-19 beat South Castries by 90 runs at the Francis “Baba” Lastic Grounds.
After losing the toss and being sent in to bat, the home side posted 167 in 25 overs. Kanil Nelson top-scored with 32, while Neil Poyotte contributed 27. Steady contributions from the middle and lower order pushed the team to what would prove to be a winning total.
For South Castries, Evan Gilbert claimed 3 for 29, Uriyah Charlemagne took 3 for 35, and Kayden Philip bagged 2 for 15.
South Castries folded for just 77 in 24 overs. Nathaniel Joseph (27) and Kershaun Gaillard (11) were the only batsmen to reach double figures. The Gros Islet bowling unit was clinical: Daniel Lorde claimed 3 wickets for only 3 runs, while Neil Poyotte took 3 for 22, lifting his tournament tally to an incredible 30 wickets. Bjorn Fanis, Kaleb Charles, and Shealawn Daniel each chipped in with a wicket apiece to complete the rout.
The stage is now set for an epic final. All eyes will be on whether the Gros Islet powerhouse, led by Neil Poyotte and Jean-Claude Emmanuel, can maintain their winning streak, or if Theo Edward and Tyler Venner will stamp their authority for Central Castries.
