HORSE RACING TO FASHION EXTRAVAGANZA
The Durban July, which dates back to 1897, has evolved from merely a day at the races to one of Africa’s biggest fashion events.
In its early decades, the event came with a modest dress code, but these days it’s all about artistic expression and pushing boundaries.
Like Hollywood events such as the Met Gala, the Durban July carries a new theme every year. The event goes beyond sports betting and entertainment; it promotes tourism, creativity, and craftsmanship from emerging designers, and also serves as a networking event where fashion, entertainment, sport, and business overlap.
