Jordan Walker, whose stellar 2026 season has propelled the St. Louis Cardinals to postseason contention, was named to his first All-Star team on the 4th of July before his team blanked the rival Chicago Cubs 3-0.

The Cardinals outfielder was selected as a National League reserve, and his 63 RBIs leads the NL. While he is not a starter, the 23-year-old Walker likely will see plenty of action during the All-Star Game on July 14 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

After struggling during his first three seasons with the Cardinals, Walker has been magnificent in 2026 with 19 home runs, a .291 batting average, and 53 runs scored.

“I had to pretty much just not lose confidence in myself and that’s where being with my teammates every day, kind of helped me keep the confidence,” Walker told mlb.com’s John Denton.

“For me, it was just about keeping going. I knew I had the skillset to be great, but to ever do anything, you have to from the work in the cage and let it show in the game.”

While it did not pay off the in the past, the 2020 first round draft pick is being rewarded for his patience and “perseverance.”

“I think I work best when we keep things simple, and I’ve had a lot of conversations (with coaches), and now we’re seeing eye to eye on that,” Walker said of this year’s success.

“I think that that’s really what it is – keeping things simple. Earlier on in my career, I definitely wanted to drive the ball, but it wasn’t happening all the time.”

After winning 17-1 at Wrigley Field against the Cubs on Friday, and 3-0 in the fog on Saturday night, Walker and the Cardinals will go for a three-game sweep on Sunday, July 5.
