Police in southern Saint Lucia are investigating the death of a 34-year-old woman whose decomposed body was discovered in Augier, Vieux Fort.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force reported that officers from the Criminal Investigations Department at Vieux Fort Police Station responded to a call at about 3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2026, in Pomme, Augier. They discovered the decomposed body of a woman hanging from a tree.
The body was transported to St Jude Hospital and later identified as 34-year-old Talia Norma Hippolyte of Augier, Vieux Fort.
A postmortem examination is scheduled for Friday, May 8, 2026, to determine the cause of death. Police confirm that the investigation is ongoing.
Community members have expressed shock at the discovery. Several individuals told SLT that Hippolyte had previously experienced mental health challenges.
This incident has renewed discussions about mental health awareness and access to support services in Saint Lucia, highlighting the importance of recognising and addressing emotional distress.
The incident has also raised concerns about graphic videos circulating on social media, reportedly depicting the deceased at the scene. Community members are urging others to refrain from sharing such content out of respect for the victim and her family.
