DJ Speedsta Calls Out Mochen Over Ignored Radio Interview Invitation. South African hip-hop thrives on talent, timing, and relationships. This week, veteran DJ and industry heavyweight DJ Speedsta reminded everyone that success in the game is about more than just streams and social media buzz.

The three-time SA Hip Hop DJ of the Year stirred conversation across the province after sharing a pointed message on X that appeared aimed at one of the country’s fastest-rising rap talents, Mochen.
In a post dripping with frustration and sarcasm, Speedsta revealed that he had invited the Pretoria North rapper onto his influential 5 Hip Hop Nights platform on five separate occasions. According to the DJ, those invitations were met with silence.
“Invited him to 5 Hip Hop Nights. He blue ticked me and went to YFM and Tshwane FM instead. Some things you can’t teach. Okes think they have it figured out. I hope the whole of GP heard him!”
Born Happy Nkuna, Mochen has rapidly emerged as one of the most exciting new voices in South African rap. Armed with sharp lyricism, an unmistakable street presence, and the red bandana that has become part of his identity, he has built a loyal following through relentless consistency and viral freestyle performances.
His debut project, NORTH Vol. 1: The Prophecy, arrived in May and was positioned as both a statement of intent and an announcement of a new contender entering the upper ranks of local hip-hop.
On the other side stands DJ Speedsta, a figure whose influence stretches far beyond the radio booth. Through 5 Hip Hop Nights, he has helped amplify both emerging and established artists, creating a platform that many rappers see as a valuable stop on any serious promotional run. An invitation from Speedsta is not simply airtime. It is access, visibility, and credibility within the culture.
